School of Journalism students won five Crystal Awards and four honorable mentions at the Public Relations Society of America WV Chapter Crystal Awards Gala held in Charleston on June 18. The Crystal Award is the top prize in each of the Association’s award categories.

All of the work was completed as part of Dr. Rita Colistra’s spring and fall 2013 public relations capstone classes.

Five public relations students from West Virginia University intern in the Reaching the Summit Community Service Initiative in Fayetteville, W.Va. The students were trained and recommended by Dr. Rita Colistra.

What started as a class project has become a home for a family in need thanks to 1,600 hours of effort and $25,000 in donations. Students in Dr. Rita Colistra's PR campaigns class implemented a fundraising campaign that raised nearly $19,000 of the total amount in cash and in-kind donations to give the project life.
